Born to Ride!
Thursday, November 12, 2009
Regular readers of my blog will know that I'm not you're ordinary scrapbooker, heck I'm not a normal girl either! One of my other hobbies besides scrapbooking, cardmaking, digital, and working out is... dirtbiking. Now I haven't been doing it all that long, maybe 3 years now? But I REALLY enjoy it! I started out with my Yamaha TTR 125cc and I had that a year before I outgrew it. So I upgraded to a Honda 230 CRF, back in January 2008. Unfortunately our nearest area to ride, Rowher Flats burned to a crisp back in fall 2007 when some kid decided that playing with matches in the tinderbox hills of Southern California sounded like a good idea! Idiots! Long story short I've ridden this bike twice since I bought it, until today!

This was me today on my third outing and it's at my old haunt, Rowher Flats, cos after over 2 years of closures for revegetative growth, regrading etc due to the fires it's open again! This is the first week and it's GREAT! We love this place as it's so much closer to our house (30-40 min drive) and totally doable for a morning ride like today. Plus it's where I learned to ride so it's always kinda special for me to go there, be biking along going "I fell off there, and there, and there" lol.
Anyway the bike was great, sooooo great to be able to get out on trails without sand (urgh). And this is pretty much a new riding since I last time I used it as Bob bought some gizmo's to lower the height of it. Because of that I only had problems with it twice today. Once when I just lost it for no reason (not sure what happened) and another time, when I basically got stuck ontop of a hill with a big crater on one side. I hate being shorter than the rest of the group! Also the good thing is that on solid ground I can now know I CAN lift the bike back up when I get into trouble and drop it. Yay! I had no end of trouble picking it up on sand as my feet just slid and I had no leverage. Plus I am lighter now than I used to be! Good side effect of that is that I can fit into my original bike pants from 3 years ago and they are rooomier than they used to be :)
Feeling nice and chilled today from a great ride!

Card Sketch Nov #2
Wednesday, November 11, 2009
Another card sketch for November! This one makes holiday cards super quick and easy and obviously a few of the sketch girls thought so too as they also made holiday cards! Really stretches the supplies too this one, and would be a great way for using up scraps!

A couple of the girls mentioned that this weeks card was the quickest they'd made and I'd have to agree, and yet the cards look nice, simple and classic. Just the way I like them! My card came together in a jiffy. Simple sticker sentiment really took the work away from any stamping etc! 2 strips of paper, knot the ribbon and Voila!

Monday Musings
Monday, November 9, 2009
Well I seem to finally be getting over the flu! My cough isn't as bad as it has been, still there but definitely getting better (hurrah!). We had date night Friday, Indian food was consumed along with beers, gosh how I LOVE Indian food!
It was brought to my attention that the card sketch this week didn't have the PNG files in the download, so I'll get that fixed this week then put that back up for download on Wednesday with the new card sketch (fingers crossed). Guess I just had a busy week last week and it slipped my mind, I thought I'd done them and just zipped up the file too soon! Ah well!
The weekend went pretty weirdly. We had some meals out, and our plans seemed to get squished on. Saturday we did get out to do some shopping. I needed new underwear so trip to Victoria's Secret was in order, more on that another day. We kinda decided Sunday that we'd go riding, but then Bobs bike had a leak in the front fork. I'm a worrier too, so no way we were going riding with that potential hazard! The good news is that Rowher Flats, our nearest off-roading area, is back open after burning down a couple of years ago! Hurrah! Big cheer for that!
Thought I'd share some Boxer cards throughout October I had published recently in Ready Set Create magazine. I LOVE LOVE LOVE making cards and Boxer products make card making a snap with coordinating papers and supplies :)

I have LOTS to do today, and lots of blog posts I want to prep for the upcoming month. The flu thing really set me behind, and playing catch up with work projects the last week or so has meant not much time to invest in the blog etc. Hopefully I can change that this week!
Also I thought I'd mention that I am back to working out daily! I did basic sessions last week, but hope to take that up a notch this week. I did a double session today (Kenpo X and yoga) and I feel great! I hope that's a sign that I am definitely over the worst of the flu and on the road to healthy again!

book review: 101 ways
Thursday, November 5, 2009
Firstly I want to say I LOVE the style of this book, it's hardcover but has spiral binding. So easy for reading and planning creative projects. IMO all creative "how to" style books should be like this! Really makes for ease of use whilst following directions!
Chapter one of this book provides some good information on beginning sewing with a fun beginner projects however the projects weren't really my personal style. The first project to start us off is a "sewing tool belt". I don't use a tool belt when I am actually using tools, why would I want to when I am sewing?
The second chapter on updating garments was more my style. Basics on mending clothes, shortening, lengthening, letting in/out etc. I didn't really like the 'embellishing' part of this chapter, but that's just not my style. For beginners though this is a great chapter to learn the basics of altering existing clothing to fit better.
Chapter 3 & 4 is basically bedroom and bathroom furnishings, again not my thing. I can make cushions already and the part on curtains was interesting, the rest not so much. Chapter 5 wasn't much better titled "fun stuff for kids and tweens" of which I have neither. There were Tote bag directions in this chapter (why in this chapter?) but you can get those patterns online. Chapters 6 and 7 again didn't apply with mostly home furnishings.
The end section of the book focused on general techniques, which was interesting but would have been better placed in the first chapter rather than at the end. In all a good book for a beginner if you like making things for your house/kids.

Monday Musings
Monday, November 2, 2009
Well I feel like I've lost a week of my life with this damn flu! It's been over a week now, and I am still not completely over it. Other people I know who have had it are on week 2 and 3 so I guess I get to suffer a little longer. I do feel a whole lot better than I did though, so that's at least some comfort! Before I got sick my friend Rosie asked me to be Guest Designer for her challenge blog, I accepted, got sick and ended up just getting this card made right under the wire! Urgh. I hate being late for anything but I guess flu is as good an excuse as any right? Anyway The first challenge for this month was a sketch, you can see the sketch and all the DT examples here: Rosie-Dee's Challenge
Well other than that, not much to update with really, other than coughing and sneezing. I think I mentioned that Bob caught the flu too right? Can't imagine where he got that from *cough cough* lol. Sharing is caring right? Anyway we've been a right pair. We didn't even celebrate Halloween despite invitations to 2 party's :( We didn't even give out candy to trick or treaters because we'd be spreading our germs to all the kids, which we really didn't think the parents would appreciate! In all a pretty boring Halloween really. I have felt well enough to do some digital designing, so I've pretty much just been doing that for the last couple of days, working on a kit for November for RAKscraps, and trying to finish up a holiday kit I had in the works back in September but never finished!
I also thought I'd share another Boxer calendar page this week, using the 6x6 calendar. I've said I love this size, but I really really do! So fun and quick to put pages together! The thing with this size, is that simplicity really is the key! No need to put lots of elements on the page, just let the patterned paper do it's job!
Boxer Products: 6x6 Calendar, Calendar Stickers, fall stripes paper, fall leaves paper
